Krejci Academy
Krejci Academy is an alternative school for children and adolescents, ages 3 to 21, who have developmental and social/emotional disabilities including Autism, PDD and Asperger's Syndrome.
Program Description
Krejci Academy is a multi-faceted educational program, providing a highly specialized learning environment for students whose needs cannot be met by their public school. Small class sizes, a high staff to student ratio, and a dedicated, creative staff provide the individualized attention that each child needs in order to succeed.
School is in session Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. In addition to the regular school year, a five-week summer school program is offered. Approximately 125 students attend Krejci Academy.
Classroom lessons are designed around the needs of the students, and range from learning basic life skills to studying math or reading lessons typical of other children their age. Each student also participates in music, physical education, and computers.
In addition to the classroom program, a variety of support services are available based on each student's needs. These services may include occupational therapy, individual or group therapy, speech/language services, and family support. High school students also receive transitional services as they prepare to move from special education to adult life.
Krejci Academy offers a therapeutic environment in which healthy self-image, positive social relationships and cognitive/academic growth are promoted. Language development, independent living skills, vocational skills and community integration are other important aspects of the program. The school is approved by the Illinois State Board of Education.
