Parent-Infant Program
The Parent-Infant Program is an early intervention program for children up to three years of age who are developmentally delayed. Therapy for children ages 3 to 5 is also available.
Program Description
The Parent-Infant Program is an early intervention program which provides therapy services for children, ages birth to three, who are experiencing developmental delays. Children served by the program include those who were born prematurely or experienced birth trauma, show behavioral disturbances, or who have genetic disorders, speech and language delays, or undiagnosed developmental delays.
Services provided include:
- Individual speech therapy
- Individual occupational therapy
- Individual developmental therapy
- Small group developmental therapy
- Speech and language group
- Developmental and occupational therapy group
- Speech/developmental therapy group
- Counseling/behavioral intervention for both parents and children
- Therapy Over Three (T.O.T.) program
Services are provided at the PIP center in Naperville or in the family's home, depending upon the needs of the child and the family. Parents whose children participate in the groups are offered a parent support group once a month, which is led by licensed clinical professional counselors.
Screenings
PIP offers free developmental screenings for families who think their child (age 0 to 33 months) may be delayed in any area of development.
Special classes for children with autism Little Friends was the first in the nation to offer a program for children under 3 years of age who have autism or other pervasive developmental disorders. The TLC Program (Touch, Learn, Communicate) is designed for children with language and sensory processing disorders, Pervasive Developmental Disorders, and/or Autism.
This program occurs four days per week and includes individual developmental therapy, a speech/occupational therapy group, and parent training.
Therapy Over Three The Therapy Over Three program (T.O.T.) provides speech and/or occupational therapy for children ages 3 to 5, as well as counseling and behavioral intervention for parents and their children.
Parents attend therapy sessions with their children in order to learn strategies/techniques to use at home. Parent participation also provides an opportunity for the therapist and parent to discuss goals and evaluate the child's progress.
T.O.T. is not part of the Early Intervention system, so all costs are the responsibility of the family. Prior to coming for services, your insurance company will be contacted to determine coverage. The family is responsible for costs not covered by their insurance.
T.O.T. Programs include:
Summer Tunes for TOTS
Eligibility
Eligibility is determined by standardized testing, administered by an individual therapist. Children who show at least a 30% delay in one or more areas of development are eligible for early intervention services. The evaluator's clinical judgment is also taken into account when determining eligibility for services.
Fees
Typically, children ages 0 to 3 are referred to PIP from the Child and Family Connections (CFC) within their county. The CFC assigns a Service Coordinator to evaluate the child and assess their therapy needs.
If your child is found to be eligible for services, a monthly family co-pay will be determined. This co-pay is paid to the State of Illinois for all services needed.
For speech therapy, occupational therapy and behavior therapy, services are typically billed to the family's insurance company. (Developmental therapy is not billed to insurance.) If the insurance company denies coverage, the services are then billed to the state. The family is not responsible for any additional fees.
New Opportunities
Little Friends’ Parent-Infant Program (PIP) will debut an exciting new class this fall. Designed for both typical and special needs children, Little Friends’ ‘Tots and Tales’ class will utilize engaging sensory activities to help children focus while reading stories. Children will have the opportunity to sing, dance and create art projects that relate back to the literary piece, all while learning in a fun and stimulating environment. ‘Tots and Tales,’ which is ideal for children ages 3-4, will begin in early November. To register for the ‘Tots and Tales’ class, please contact Program Director Tracy Wannemacher at (630) 778-2611.
